After serving as the ESA Business Applications Regional Ambassador, Alan co-authored the North West Space Strategy along with UKRI-STFC colleagues. Subsequently, with the creation of the North West Space Cluster by UKRI-STFC and other key stakeholders, Alan was appointed as its Manager, and is tasked with the growth and diversification of the Space economy of North West England. 

Alan also serves within 'Space North'; a collaboration between the North West Space Cluster, Space Hub Yorkshire, and Space North East England to support the development of an internationally competitive pan-Northern space economy.
