SpaceCom $100,000 Entrepreneur Challenge

Official Rules

BASIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

In order to be eligible for the SpaceCom $100,000 Entrepreneur Challenge, startup companies must meet the following basic legibility requirements:

    • Must be a legal business entity
    • Number of employees must not exceed 50 people
    • Must have secured a minimum of one round of successful seed funding, but no more than $5 million raised
    • Company revenue must not exceed $2 million
    • Must have been in business for 5 years or less

TO BE SELECTED, APPLYING COMPANIES MUST FULFILL THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Submit the Entrepreneur Challenge Application Form to be considered for the challenge. Application will open June 1, 2019 and must be completed by November 1, 2019
  2. If you meet our minimum requirements and wish to participate in the SpaceCom $100,000 Entrepreneur Challenge, you are required to pay a registration fee of $275. This will allow up to two company executives to participate in the Challenge at SpaceCom
  3. If you meet our minimum requirements, but DO NOT wish to participate in the SpaceCom $100,000 Entrepreneur Challenge, and want to exhibit in the Entrepreneur Pavilion, you may do so for a registration fee of $500. Please reach out to Rich Hodge to secure your spot

THE $275 REGISTRATION FEE ENABLES STARTUP COMPANY ELIGIBLE TO:

  1. Attend the SpaceCom Entrepreneur Summit, November 19.
  2. Enter the SpaceCom $100,000 Entrepreneur Challenge competition
    • To participate in the competition, you must complete the SES Business Plan Questionnaire by October 28 (not to be confused with the Entrepreneur Challenge Application Form)
    • On November 4, 30 contestants will be notified that they have been selected as a semi-finalist in the competition
    • Those not selected as a semi-finalist will have ample opportunity during the workshop to tell their company story and receive valuable mentoring
    • Semi-finalists must be prepared to give a 2-minute pitch on the first day of the Entrepreneur Summit, November 19
    • From the group of semi-finalists, seven (7) finalists will be selected to make a 5-minute pitch during the plenary session on November 21. A panel of judges, along with audience participation, will select the winning company
    • The winning company will be announced immediately following the seven presentations
  3. Google Cloud Credits are awarded to all who participate
    • By being approved to participate in the SpaceCom $100,000 Entrepreneur Challenge, and if you attend the event, you will be awarded a minimum of $3,000 in credits to Google Cloud services. The first 50 participants will be eligible for the Google Cloud credits

Runners up will receive $20,000 in Google Cloud credits

    • The winning company will receive $100,000 in Google Cloud credits, along with these additional prizes:
      • Guaranteed extended meeting with an investment firm
      • Speaking role at SpaceCom 2020
      • Booth at SpaceCom 2020
      • Plenary Session Award Presentation
  1. Exhibit in the SpaceCom Entrepreneur Pavilion
    • Qualified companies will receive information on how to sign-up for a complimentary exhibit space in the Entrepreneur Pavilion on the SpaceCom trade show floor
    • Pavilion spaces are available to registered SpaceCom $100,000 Entrepreneur Challenge participants for an additional fee of $250
    • Qualified SES registrants not competing in the SpaceCom $100,000 Entrepreneur Challenge may purchase a pavilion space for $500
    • Eligible participants who are not selected as a semi-finalist or do not wish to participate in the SpaceCom $100,000 Entrepreneur Challenge, may purchase a Pavilion space
    • Pavilion spaces are limited. Availability and location in the Pavilion are determined on a first-come, first-served basis

PRIMARY JUDGING CRITERIA

    • Judges will assess applicants’ submitted information based on criteria that includes, but is not limited to, Problem, Solution, Market, Business Model, Competition, Team, and Financials
    • For the semi-finalist 2-minute pitches, judges will want to know, “Is your value proposition clear? Can your company execute on its plans?”
    • For the finalist the following giving 5-minute pitches during the plenary session, judges will want to know, “How well did you communicate a compelling story? Are you a believer in what you are doing and in your success?” 

TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATIONS

Travel and lodging expenses are the responsibility of participants. Favorable rates are available at the Houston Marriott Marquis for SpaceCom attendees. Hotel information will be available soon.

IMPORTANT DATES TO KEEP IN MIND:

    • Application will open: June 1, 2019
    • SpaceCom $100,000 Entrepreneur Challenge Application submission deadline: November 1, 2019*
    • Business Plan Questionnaire submission deadline: October 28, 2019
    • Notification of selected semi-finalists: November 4, 2019

*Spaces for the workshop and competition are limited. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis for qualified companies.
