Innovations and Solutions for Propulsion Supply and Scalability

30 Jan 2025
W331A
SpaceCom | Space Congress: Space Exploration

As the commercial space industry continues to expand, the demand for advanced propulsion solutions is outpacing supply, posing significant challenges for scaling up production and meeting mission requirements. This session will explore a range of innovative propulsion technologies and strategies for overcoming these constraints.

Topics will include advancements in electric propulsion systems, which leverage breakthroughs in ionization techniques and plasma physics to create more efficient thrust, as well as the development of high-power nuclear electric propulsion (NEP) for deep space exploration. NEP systems, powered by space-qualified nuclear fission reactors, enable high-efficiency plasma rockets capable of delivering the speed and power needed for interplanetary travel. Panelists will discuss how these technologies, along with improved manufacturing processes and the integration of mission design software, are shaping the future of space mobility and helping the industry navigate supply challenges to support sustainable growth and innovation.
